Intertwined in the history of every town centre are the businesses that help make them unique places. Town centres have long been places of entrepreneurship and some of the country’s biggest retail names started out life on the high street.

The businesses that make up today’s high streets each have their own story. Some are run by families and have been for generations, whilst others are new, started by someone excited about beginning their own story with a fresh idea.

To capture some of the history that separates the high street from the retail park, the council’s Town Centre Management team have created a new initiative called ‘Stories’ under the successful ‘Choose the High Street’ brand. The project will tell the story of the people behind the shop fascia.

What all of these stories confirm is that the high street is still a place for new business ideas and remains at the heart of the community. Town centres are about people, which is why they remain relevant in a changing world and the reason that people continue to ‘Choose the High Street’.

All of these stories can be found in the “Choose The High Street Stories” category.
